While Mike has dedicated his career to cultivating and growing public-private partnerships and implementing innovative developments, he also serves on the board of directors for the Minnesota Amatuer Sports commission and served on the boards of both the Como Friends and Great River Passage Conservancy.
Experience
Director of Parks and Recreation, City of Saint Paul (2008-2022)
Mike led a nationally accredited, award-winning, equity-focused, and industry-leading municipal parks and recreation agency, including 180 Parks and Open Spaces, 25 Community Centers, over 100 miles of trails, numerous premium and partnered recreational features including Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, CHS Field, 4 golf courses, 4 aquatics centers, $65 million annual budget, 600 full-time equivalent staff, and a $500 million facility portfolio.
Director/Campus Manager, Como Park Zoo & Conservatory, SAINT Paul, Minnesota (2006-2008)
Mike was the executive leader for the planning, operations, and maintenance of a world-class zoo and botanical garden with 120 employees and 1,200 volunteers. He was liaison to a successful non-profit philanthropic partner and managed a $5.5 million annual budget and 2 million yearly visitors.
Recreation Services Manager, SAINT Paul Parks and Recreation (2004-2006)
As the senior manager of the City of Saint Paul’s comprehensive community recreation program, facilities, and services, Mike managed youth and adult athletics with 40 facilities, 1,500 staff, and contracted specialists and an $8.5 million annual operating budget.
Special Services Manager, SAINT Paul Parks and Recreation (1998-2004)
Mike began his path identifying creative approaches to resolve the most complex issues as senior manager of the City of Saint Paul’s entrepreneurial recreation contracts, programs and facilities (golf, swim, public/private contracts), and planning and programming of downtown parks with 300 employees and a $6 million annual budget.
